Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar, an American and British sitarist. She was the first woman of her generation to be a member of an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka Shankar is among India's rising stars in the sitar. She is a scholar and granddaughter of legendary Ravi Shankar. She was born London in 1982. In the first few years of her life she was split her time between London New Delhi. In New Delhi, she made her first appearance at only 13 years old. After that, she relocated to Encinitas CA, where she earned her High School diploma with honors in 1999. Anouskha is still pursuing a successful career in recording and performing even though she's only a teenager. She has been accompanying her father on stage for many years. Her first solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. The Grammy Award-winning Live at Carnegie Hall was released two years later than her first solo album. Stage performance is a significant part of her work. She has performed in a variety of famous venues around the world. Anoushka Shakar's talents are not restricted to just music. Bapi: The Love of My Live is her 2002 novel, and is a tribute to Ravi Shankar. Also, she has acted. in the 2003 movie Dance Like a Man, in which she played the role of a Bharat Natyam dancer young girl. Anoushka is still progressing on her path and there will be many more things to come from this talented woman. Anoushka was raised in England however, she spent the majority of her growing up in between London in the UK and Delhi. After that, she relocated to California and enrolled in the high school there. In Delhi at his 75thbirthday celebration she made her debut as a sitar player in front of the audience at the age of four, following her nine year old father. Anoushka, who accompanied her father during his world tour, gained an impressive amount of experience. When she was in her teens, she performed at Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and even recorded with George Harrison. In the end, The House of Commons Shield was given an award by the British Parliament as the pre-eminent Asian Arts musician. She is the only woman and is the smallest recipient of the prize.
